On-Line Partial Discharge Localization in Power Cables Based on Electromagnetic Time Reversal Theory - Numerical Validation

This paper presents the numerical validation of a new on-line location method partial discharge (PD) in cables Medium Voltage (MV) power networks based on electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) theory. Because PD events are symptom cable insulation degradation, PDs localization is key topic for fault prevention networks, increasing their reliability and resilience to guaranteeing electricity security. A description proposed EMTR given its effectiveness accuracy analyzed lines with both homogeneous inhomogeneous cables. The methods strongly affected by distortion pulses during propagation lines, caused mainly skin effect. For this reason, using lossy model that able reproduce signals distortion. used, realized transmission line matrix (TLM) method, also presented here theoretically validated.
